Olesia Shewchuk and Carlos Vela-Martinez.

Carlos Vela-Martinez is a Vancouver-based filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist with extensive hands-on experience across independent short films, working in production design, props, sound design, and as an actor. Carlos previously co-produced, co-wrote, and acted in the award-winning short The Perfect Spot with his creative collaborator Olesia Shewchuk through their venture, Vibrant House Productions. For Vibrant House’s most recent project Bedlock, he served as director, co-producer, co-writer, co-editor, sound designer, and production designer.
A graduate of Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Carlos maintains an established sculptural studio practice that continues to shape his material approach to filmmaking - and is also a welder at a robotic welding company.

OLESIA SHEWCHUK

Actor, Director, Composer, Writer, Editor
Olesia Shewchuk is a multifaceted performer and filmmaker with extensive experience both in front of and behind the camera. As an actor, she has appeared in over 24 theatre and musical productions, and on screen in TV roles for Netflix, NBC, ABC, CW, and more. She won “Best Actress in a Feature Film” at the World Premiere Film Awards for Prof.
Behind the scenes, Olesia has produced, directed, written, edited, story edited, and/or composed for over 75 short films and five features. Her award-winning shorts she directed — Mime Vs Junkie, Breaking Ground, and The Perfect Gift for Flora—have screened internationally. A classically-trained soprano and pianist, Olesia has scored 7 short films and performs regularly as a vocal soloist, including with the Vancouver and New Westminster Symphony Orchestras. She also teaches voice and filmmaking, hosts accountability drop-ins online, and conducts and arranges music for the Barvinok Choir. Olesia graduated from the Seattle Film Institute Production Program, and holds an honours degree in Chemical Physics.
